I love to read because it takes me to another world ....When I am reading "Charlie and the chocolate factory", I feel as if I am one of the five children who got the golden tickets, I am right there, by the flowing chocolate river. When I am reading "Asterix" books, I could easily be one of the gauls living in the Gaulish village. Reading also makes me know about so many things that I did not know before, and that makes me smarter. Books are like my friends so I am never lonely....."

RR inspires me to read more and more....there are sooo many books around, I don't know where to start. I love it when Atula Maa'm reads books to us,makes us play word games, gives us work sheets, makes us rhyme and gives us free reading time. I could even write a poem with her help. This vacation, I had been to Switzerland with my parents. There, I saw a fat cat and with the help of my mother, I wrote a poem on the fat cat. It goes like this:

The CAT of Switzerland In Switzerland,
I saw a striped cat, He was OBESE, and that means fat!

His eyes were yellowish green,
He was standing at the entrance of Chalet "Beryn".

When he saw me, he purred "meow",
But I thought he said "wow"!

I think he likes to eat bread,
If he doesn't get it, he turns red!

Then he saw a mouse, He ran after the mouse,
and the mouse ran into his house!

Books are the best companions one can have.

Books contain endless source of knowledge & pleasure. I believe if I can teach my daughter to love to read, I am handing down a special gift which will enrich her life as nothing else can do.

RR has helped her to further develop her language skills, her ability to read alone, be more interactive & confident for which I am very grateful.

I myself a great lover of books, wanted to inculcate the habit in my son. Thanks to RR it really helped him to do that. Now he reads a lot and once he is with a book, nothing matters to him. Even if I shout at him, he won't get up unless he finished his book, but I am happy about it.

I open a book and lose myself in that world. I find this world, wonderful, irresistible and intoxicating.

The other day when I was reading the book 'The Namesake'by Jhumpa Lahiri, I came across a wonderful quote about books which I like to share with everyone- "Through books we can travel the whole world without moving an inch." So let's begin this wonderful journey.

Reading for a dyslexic is a challenge in itself. And when i find my students begin reading novels and stories, it gives me immense pleasure that I have made a difference in atleast one life!

Reading is like eating a chocolate.. as satisfying, and doesn't add the calories...

Teaching a child how to read is the easier part. But raising a child with a lifelong passion for reading is one of the most beautiful contribution a parent can make to a child's future. My wife and I try to focus on the latter but we're never quite sure if we're getting there. Then there was this incident...

Early one school day, in the flurry of activity at home to get our children ready for school, I realized suddenly that Azul, our eldest
son, was nowhere to be found. I searched everywhere on the ground floor where he would normally be at that hour, called for him, but there was no sign of Azul.

So I ran upstairs, checking every room, including the bathroom that he normally uses. Still no Azul. I finally tried my own bathroom. There, on the pot (western toilet) was Azul, with a smile on his face. He really was waiting for me to find him.

With all the anxiety in me, I yelled at my son, "What in heavens are you doing here?!" He held up a children's book that he was reading and said with a smirk, "You read your newspaper on the pot? Why can't I read a book?"

Now we have a problem on our hands. Our son loves to read but he takes forever to poop!

Reading about the experiences of others,we, my husband and I remember those days when our kids were 3 and four years old. Every evening they would wait eagerly for the story telling sessions and we would watch them lap up every detail and can still remember the bright , intense look on their faces. They grew up loving their books, and became keenly interested in reading. It not only opened a world of information, but also enabled them in comprehending everything faster. We found that very often they were their own teachers!Today they seem like budding writers to us. I really believe in the initiative that RR has taken up and am sure it will go a long way in their endeavour.

My eldest nephew (only 2 and a half years old) loves listening to stories that I read to him. I am going to print stories invented by the Reading Rainbow children and tell them to my son and nephews.

For my five year old son Rohan, books have opened the window to the world in the true sense. At this young age he has grown extremely fond of books and so we never have to worry about coming up with ways to keep him engaged… Give him books, and he can sit with them for a good duration. He has tremendous concentration. And for all this, the credit goes to reading early. We feel so happy that his mind is occupied in such an intellectually stimulating way.

My husband and I have also noticed that he has become a keen observer and thinks quite well for his age. His vocabulary is quite good and he always has appropriate words to put his thoughts across.

Seeing our son gain so much from reading we have already started exposing our one year old daughter, Meha to books. We want both our kids to be creative, imaginative, intelligent and good thinkers- and nothing can give these skills to them better than the habit of reading.

Books are my companion.

We get more knowledge from books. I love reading.

- Darsh Modi (8 years), India

Books are a pleasure to read and from reading I get lot of knowledge as well as refreshment. I love them.

- Anmol Bhatia

It's been a year since Darsh joined Reading Rainbow. I can see a complete transformation in him. The boy used to be so shy, a boy who could not speak English confidently, is now the most talkative and bubbly child. Not only that, he wants to read all the time. And his English skills?- he just wants to converse in English and knows the language well. I thank RR for improving his language skills and of course building his confidence.

I borrowed the book "Trees Still Grow in Dehra" by Ruskin Bond, from British Library. I was keen to take that particular book because the blurb said that the stories in it were mostly autobiographical. And because of RR and Atula, I have developed an affinity towards Ruskin Bond. So I felt compelled to take that book. I started reading and have found it difficult to put it down. It has left such a lasting impression on my mind and in my heart that is difficult to describe. Through the book, I have experienced his pain (though only to some extent), his joy in being so close to nature, the kind of childhood he had, his keen observations of the most routine things around us of which we do not even take notice.
I couldn't stop tears flowing from my cheeks when I read about how he was "informed " about the death of his father-the person whom he loved the most in the world-, when his cherished possession-his father's letters were taken away from him by the Principal of his school, who forgot all about them when RB went to get them back!

The best thing about his book is his optimism. The unhappy phases of his life have not left any bitterness in him. Its heartening to know from his interview with Atula that he has found a loving family and is even a great grand father!

By narrating this reading experience, all I want to say is that Aatman is not the only one from our family who has benefited immensely from RR. My love for reading has also been rekindled because of RR! And I have Atula and the RR team to thank for that. I believe Aatman is indeed fortunate to be a part of a reading centre like this. I do hope he continues to have the same kind of passion for books all through his life. Reading RB's book made me wish that Aatman would grow up fast so that we can cherish the book together.
- Priya Vakil, Lawyer, RR parent, Ahmedabad

I always wanted to expose my daughter, Anmol, to the world of books and develop an interest in reading in her. The concept of RR really fascinated me and she joined Reading Rainbow in July 2007. Slowly but surely she is developing a keen interest in books, their authors. Reading is also creating awareness and curiosity in her. I am really very happy with RR and the efforts the RR team puts in are commendable.
